Odisha Cong launches FIR campaign on BPL rice

Bhubaneswar: With registering complaint against CM Naveen Patnaik, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday launched its FIR drive against the State government for reducing 10 kg rice from the quota of BPL families.
At least 33 party observers would oversee the campaign in all organizational districts and would persuade the BPL families to lodge complaint over the issue.
On the other hand, BJD termed it as a political gimmick of Congress. Food and Civil Supply minister Pratap Kesahri Deb said “as the general election is getting nearer, the Congress is trying to make an issue against the government. I think it would have no impact in political circle”.
Odisha PCC President Jayadev Jena on July 3 had alleged that State Government is distributing 25 kg of rice to each BPL family while Center supplies 35 kg every month. Similarly, senior Congress leader Narasingh Mishra alleged that the State government has violated the Central guidelines by distributing less rice to the BPL families. The poor people would be persuaded to lodge complaint against the government in this regard, he added.
Countering Mishra, BJD vice-president Prasanna Acharya said that no Central guideline has been violated in the distribution of BPL rice. Even other states especially some Congress ruled states are also distributing same quantities to the poor.
