Odisha CM targets previous government; says focus on infrastructure-rich schools, not cosmetic changes

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Monday took a dig at the previous government, asserting that his administration is focused on developing infrastructure-rich schools rather than merely repainting buildings, while remaining committed to delivering quality education across the state.

The Chief Minister said that the current BJP government is prioritising strong educational infrastructure to ensure long-term improvement in learning outcomes in Odisha.

 “We are not creating colourfully painted schools; we are building schools with proper infrastructure,” he said, underlining the state government’s commitment to quality education.

The Chief Minister also alleged that the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme had earlier fallen victim to political considerations. “Ayushman Bharat was a casualty of politics. After our government came to power, we implemented the scheme,” he said, adding that around 3.5 crore people are now benefiting from it across the state.

Highlighting the government’s focus on social welfare, Majhi said women’s safety remains a top priority, noting that women constitute nearly half of Odisha’s population. He said the government is taking concrete steps to ensure their security and empowerment.

Referring to decisions taken soon after assuming office, the Chief Minister said the ‘Subhadra’ scheme was approved in the very first cabinet meeting, reflecting the government’s seriousness towards women-centric welfare initiatives.

Majhi also said the government is giving special emphasis to the promotion and propagation of the Odia language, reaffirming its commitment to preserving and strengthening the state’s linguistic and cultural identity.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government’s policies are aimed at inclusive development, with education, healthcare, women’s welfare and cultural preservation forming the core of its governance agenda.
