Odisha CM reiterates demand to name Jharsuguda airport after Veer Surendra Sai

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reiterated his demand before the Civil Aviation Minister, Suresh Prabhu to name the soon-to-be-inaugurated Jharsuguda airport after freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai.

In a letter to Prabhu, Patnaik said, “I would like to reiterate the request that Government of India may consider naming the Jharsuguda Airport as ‘Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda’ which would be a befitting tribute to the legendary son of soil.”

“You might be aware that Jharsuguda is located strategically in an industrial and mining belt of Odisha. Keeping in view the growing importance of this city in western Odisha, I would request you to kindly consider introduction of commercial flights to Jharsuguda. To begin with, one of Air India flights from Bhubaneswar to Delhi may be routed through Jharsuguda,” Patnaik stated in his letter.

The first flight from Jharsuguda airport will be flagged off by the Prime Minister on September 22 under UDAN scheme.
