Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Monday unfurled the national flag at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack as part of the Republic Day celebrations and addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of the Constitution, India’s freedom struggle and the country’s progress in recent years.
Speaking after unfurling the Tricolour, the Chief Minister said Cuttack is not just a historic city but a living symbol of Odisha’s rich culture and traditions. He said the celebration of the 77th Republic Day at Barabati Stadium reflected the pride and unity of the people of the state.
“Our Constitution teaches us the values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. These principles have given India a distinct identity on the global stage,” Majhi said.
Tribute to Freedom Fighters and National Leaders
CM Mohan Majhi paid homage to prominent national leaders who played pivotal roles in India’s freedom movement, including Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Veer Savarkar, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
He also remembered Odisha’s freedom fighters and social reformers, including Bira Surendra Sai, Shaheed Madho Singh, Buxi Jagabandhu, Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das, Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das, Gopabandhu Choudhury, Nabakrushna Choudhury, Bhagawan Birsa Munda, Shaheed Laxman Nayak, Maa Ramadevi, Shaheed Baji Rout, Malati Choudhury, Maa Parbati Giri and Dr Harekrushna Mahatab.
Majhi said he saluted the countless freedom fighters and martyrs who laid down their lives for the unity, sovereignty and security of the nation.
Constitution and National Progress
Reflecting on India’s journey after Independence, the Chief Minister said the country faced two major challenges, the trauma of Partition and the responsibility of governing a diverse nation through a strong legal framework. He said the Constitution was drafted to guide the country and continues to serve as the cornerstone of Indian democracy.
Referring to recent developments, Majhi said India is steadily moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said initiatives such as Make in India have strengthened self-reliance across sectors, from manufacturing to technology. Citing national achievements, he said around 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty and that the country has strengthened its security framework, delivering firm responses to terrorism.
The Chief Minister concluded by urging citizens to uphold constitutional values and contribute to the nation’s continued progress.
