Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Friday laid the foundation stone for a new medical college and hospital in Nabarangpur district, marking a significant step toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region.
The upcoming medical institution will be developed at Patalguda on more than 50 acres of land. Once completed, the facility will have a capacity of 420 beds and offer 100 MBBS seats.
Addressing the gathering, the Odisha CM said the project will ensure that residents no longer need to travel outside the district for advanced medical treatment.
Highlighting the government’s healthcare expansion efforts, CM Majhi noted that within 20 months of assuming office, three medical colleges and hospitals in Jajpur, Kandhamal and Talcher have already become operational.

177 Development Projects Worth Over Rs 446 Crore
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 177 development projects in the district, collectively valued at over Rs 446 crore. This includes the inauguration of 112 projects worth Rs 68 crore and the foundation laying of 65 projects estimated at Rs 378 crore.
The initiatives span across various sectors, including education, road connectivity, bridges, and anganwadi centres.
Majhi emphasized that the state government is prioritising development in key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, transportation and women’s empowerment to accelerate the progress of Nabarangpur.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling also addressed the gathering, pointing out that about three decades ago, Odisha had only three government-run medical colleges and hospitals.
He said that the current BJP government is working towards establishing medical colleges in every district to improve access to quality healthcare and ensure adequate availability of doctors.
