The Odisha government on Tuesday inaugurated 250 new ambulances as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency medical services across the state. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi flagged off the vehicles at a programme held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The addition marks the second phase of the state’s plan to expand its emergency ambulance network, aimed at improving response time and access to timely medical care, particularly in critical situations.
Expansion Of Emergency Ambulance Network
The state government had earlier announced a decision to add a total of 428 new ambulances to its emergency medical transportation system. As part of the first phase, 150 ambulances were inaugurated on December 23, 2025. With Monday’s launch of 250 additional vehicles, the state has significantly advanced its planned expansion.
Officials said the new ambulances would be deployed across districts to enhance coverage and ensure faster transportation of patients to healthcare facilities.
State-Funded Initiative
CM Mohan Majhi said the expansion was undertaken entirely with state funds, underlining the government’s commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure.
“Our government has launched 428 new ambulances for emergency medical transportation for the people of the state. Similar to this, 150 ambulances were launched on December 23, 2025, and today 250 new ambulances have been added,” Majhi said.
He added, “The state government has undertaken this initiative with its own funds amounting to Rs 111 crore.”
Focus On Timely Medical Care
The Chief Minister said the initiative was designed with a focus on emergency services and improving operational efficiency. “This initiative has been taken keeping emergency services in mind. The step has been taken to establish the efficiency of ambulances in providing immediate medical attention to people and to ensure that patients reach hospitals on time,” he said, adding that the state government had taken strong measures to ensure effective implementation.
