Odisha cable operators launch blackout over TRAI’s new tariff order
Bhubaneswar: Joining protests against the new tariff order of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), cable operators in Odisha observed a 24-hour blackout today. As part of the protest, the cable operators stopped airing the channels from 6 AM in the morning today and the blackout will continue till 6 AM tomorrow.
Protesting against TRAI’s tariff order, the members of Odisha Cable Operators also staged a demonstration at Master Canteen Square in Bhubaneswar today.
According to sources, the cable operators are protesting against the new tariff structure order by TRAI which stipulates that consumers will only pay for the channels they watch. The cable operators demanded that TRAI should re-consider its decision on new tariff order of channels, sources said.
“Today’s 24-hour blackout of channels is in protest of TRAI’s new tariff order. All cable operators across India are protesting against the move and we are supporting the protest,” said K Sesa Sai, a cable operator.
Another cable operator Pramod Nanda said “There is need for changes in the new tariff order. The interests of the cable operators and their employees should also be taken into consideration by TRAI.”
