Odisha ask Jharkhand to hand over Maoist Johnson Munda

Rourkela: Odisha police would request their Jharhkand counterparts to hand over self-styled Maoist `area commander` Johnson Munda for interogation in connection with certain cases in the state.

"Yes, we have a plan to bring Munda on remand. We are waiting for Jharkhand police to wrap up their grilling," IG, Western Range Y K Jethwa said on Monday.

Jethwa also confirmed having got the news about arrest of Munda by the Jharkhand police on Sunday.

Munda, an `area commander` who heads the 21st squad, was arrested near Poseita station and security personnel seized one loaded SLR from his possession, in a breakthrough by Jharkhand police in its anti-Maoist operation.

Munda`s squad was active in Western Singhbhum in Jharkhand and Keonjhar and Sundergarh in state having operated mainly inside the deep jungles of Saranda. He belonged to Bitkilsoya village under Jareikela police station area in Odisha.

Police said Munda is a close confidant of Anmol, the area head of Chotanagpur division of the Maoists.
