Odia writer dead

Bhubaneswar: Prominent Odia writer and a Central Sahitya Academy awardee Jatindra Mohan Mohanty passed away here on Wednesday due to old age ailments, family sources said.

Mohanty (80), a renowned literary critic, was honoured with Central Sahitya Academy in 2003 for his book titled `Surya Snata` (The Sun Bathed), a work on Odia poetry.

Mohanty, who started his career as a lecturer in English at Ravenshaw College in Cuttack, had at least 20 Odia books to his credit besides above 250 essays and other works in English literature.
