Jajpur: It was my dream to conquer the highest peak and wanted to achieve it at any cost, said Odia mountaineer Swarnalata Dalai after returning from Mount Everest expedition.

Swarnalata successfully climbed the Mount Everest along with co-mountaineers Poonam and Sandeep Toliya under the prestigious Mount Everest Expedition organised by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) after trainingunder ace mountaineer and first Indian woman Everester, Bachendri Pal last month.

Sharing her experience, Swarnalata said scaling the mountain peak is very challenging due to inclement weather and fear of shortage of oxygen.

There was fear and at the same time I was full of determination that continued to inspire me keep going.

The 20-year-old mountaineer from Jagadiha village under Dangadi block in Jajpur district further stated that she always wanted to do something big.

After her recent achievement, Swarnalata arrived to a rousing reception at her village.

"Every girl should also try to break the stereotype and face all hurdles with a strong determination. I want to do something for the girls in our society," Swarnalata added.

Jajpur Collector, Ranjan Das informed that already a letter has been written to State government for appropriate measures for further training of Swarnalata.

"Swarnalata has brought laurels for the State and we had feliciated her for her achievement," said Das.
