The mortal remains of Indian Army jawan Jitu Behera reached his native village Anandapalli in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, where he was laid to rest amid official protocols on Wednesday night.

Behera, who was posted in the Kashmir valley, died after suffering a cardiac arrest while on duty. He was accorded a final farewell as family members, villagers and local officials gathered to pay their last respects.

As per reports, Jitu Behera was serving with the Indian Army in the Kashmir valley when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during duty hours, leading to his death. The news of his demise reached his family shortly after contact with him was lost, triggering concern among his relatives. His mortal remains were later transported to his native village, where funeral rites were conducted.

Family And Village In Mourning

Behera had married only a few months ago. His sudden death has left his immediate family shattered. His wife, Subhashree Behera, expressed pride in her husband’s service and sacrifice, saying, “I feel proud that my husband was a jawan and I feel proud that he became a shahid. He sacrificed his life for the people of India, and for that I feel very proud.”

Recounting the last conversation with his son, Behera’s father said, “I spoke with him the day before yesterday. When I called him yesterday, he did not pick up. When we contacted others, we were told that he had gone to some place.”

Administration Assures Support

Nayagarh Collector Madhumita Rath expressed condolences on behalf of the district administration and assured support to the bereaved family. “We are extremely saddened that Jitu Behera got martyred. The government will provide assistance with whatever is needed,” she said.
