Cuttack: The mystery behind popular Odia TV actress Laxmipriya Behera alias Nikita's death is now unravelling in pieces. Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh today informed that Nikita’s husband Lipan Sahu is responsible for her death as there was a scuffle between the couple on the day of incident on January 4. Lipan was sent to judicial custody today after his bail plea was rejected by Cuttack SDJM court.

“Sahu was produced before the SDJM Court today and his bail plea was rejected following which he was sent to Choudwar Circle Jail,” Public prosecutor, Biswajit Baral said.

“Nikita has committed suicide but the family members are alleging that Sahu pushed her. The exact cause of death will be clear after a detailed investigation and we will appeal for bail at the session’s court tomorrow,” Lipan's counsel, Bidyadhar Pradhan said.

Earlier today the Cuttack DCP had stated that “From circumstantial evidences, it is clear that Lipan is responsible for Nikita’s death. The accused has also confessed that he had entered into a fight with Nikita and even there was a scuffle between them on the terrace of her parent’s house in Mahanadi Vihar.”

Singh further informed that both Nikita and her husband had tied the nuptial knot in 2016, but problems surfaced between them after four months of their marriage. After the couple was blessed with a premature baby, Nikita started to stay with her parents. But on the day of the incident on January 4, Lipan had gone to Nikita’s parents’ house and there was an altercation between them. While they were arguing, Nikita reportedly fell off the terrace and later succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital in Cuttack on January 5, the DCP informed.

“We are still not sure whether Lipan pushed Nikita or not. But there was a scuffle between them and based on circumstantial evidences we have arrested him. We are also investigating the charges of harassment against Nikita’s in-laws,” Singh added.

Lipan’s family members on the other hand have refuted the allegations of domestic violence. “My brother had got a call and went to Nikita’s house. At around 11:30 PM, we came to know about the incident. There were no issues between my mother and Nikita as she was not even staying with us,” said Lipan’s sister, Sonam Sahu.

Sonam further alleged that Nikita never wanted to stay with her in-laws. “Our family had given Nikita all the freedom and as she was not staying with us, there is no question of any domestic violence, “said Sonam adding that her brother Lipan is innocent.
