A car driven by Odia film actor Ashrumochan Mohanty lost control and plunged into the Daya West Canal near Kalajhari, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, in the early hours of Saturday. The actor, however, managed to climb out to safety following the mishap.
According to preliminary information, the actor’s vehicle veered off the road and fell into the canal after he reportedly swerved to avoid a stray dog that suddenly came in front of the car. The incident occurred near the Saipan area, close to the Kalajhari stretch.
Local residents who witnessed the incident alerted the police and helped the actor out of the vehicle. Sources said there was very little water in the canal at the time of the accident, preventing a more serious outcome.
Actor Escapes With Minor Injuries
Ashrumochan, who was reportedly returning home late at night, sustained only minor injuries and was declared safe after preliminary medical examination. Police said no other vehicles were involved in the mishap.
Eyewitnesses said the car lost balance as the driver attempted to steer away from the animal and crashed into the canal embankment before sliding down. The car, however, is yet to be pulled out of the canal.
