Cuttack: In a goodwill gesture to encourage sportspersons, Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) has announced cash prizes of Rs 50,000 each for a gold medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships at Cape Town, South Africa.
OCA secretary Asirbad Behera said in a statement that Minati Das, Pramila Kirsani and Achyutananda Sahu who won gold medals on the first day of the event on Tuesday would receive the cash prize after their return here from South Africa.
In fact, on Day-1, Minati Das of Berhampur won three gold medals-in clean and jerk, snatch and total lifts of 100 kg in her category of 44 kg youth girls.
Similarly, Pramila Kirsani won gold in 53 kg youth girls category while Achyutananda Sahu made it to the top podium in his category of 62 kg youth boys.
