Nuapada bypoll verdict in 2 days, political parties express ‘confidence’

The much-awaited Nuapada by-election results are set to be announced in just two days (i.e. on November 14, Friday). The electoral battle has intensified, with political parties in Odisha actively claiming victory in their favour and issuing statements ahead of the results.

BJD has alleged irregularities in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), claiming that the voting process may have been manipulated. BJD leader Pramila Mallik asserted that the party’s female candidate attracted strong support from women voters in Nuapada Assembly constituency, with enthusiastic participation from the electorate.

Responding firmly, Revenue Minister and senior BJP leader Suresh Pujari dismissed the BJD’s allegations, stating that the party’s complaints reflect frustration over potential defeat and that they are attempting to preemptively blame others for an expected loss.

Meanwhile, the BJP candidate Jay Dholakia expressed his confidence that he would secure a decisive victory, garnering a record number of votes. Both parties continue to mobilise their supporters in the final stretch of the by-election process.

“We will definitely win the election with a huge number of votes. The vote margin will be a big one, more than 8-10 thousand. Since we had fielded a woman candidate, interest in women has increased to mandate a woman. Certainly, a larger number of women's votes will go in favour of BJD,” the party’s Pramila Mallik stated.

Reacting to this, senior BJP leader Pujari expressed, “The way they (BJD leaders) are raising allegations, I think, it is a reflection of their frustration. They are now carrying out a dress rehearsal of their 'pretention', which they would likely show in front of the media after a probable failure on their part.”

“BJP will get a record number of votes in the bypoll,” the Revenue Minister asserted.
