Rourkela: The rampage incident at a government-run tribal residential school here took a new twist after recovery of pistol, bullets and Maoist literatures from a motorcycle. Police are suspecting involvement of Red rebels in the incident.

As per police, around 4-5 youths barged into the Erla residential school girls` hostel and went on a rampage. The miscreants inquired about an inmate and thrashed the teachers as they did not reveal the whereabouts of the girl.

Peeved over denial, they roughed up the teachers and damaged properties in the school. However, the miscreants had to retreat on seeing the villagers advancing towards the school. During their premature exit, the youths left behind two motorcycles from where a county made pistol, bullets and Maoist literatures were seized. The Maoist literatures belonging to CPI (Maoists) Chota Nagpur Zonal Committee, Jharkhand Nari Mukti Sangh and pamphlets carrying slogans were seized.

Though initially it appeared as one-sided love affair, the recovery of these items pointed the suspicion towards Maoist involvement.

Upon investigation, police revealed the involvement of rebels who are trying to enroll young girls into the cadres.

“The items seized from the motorcycles suggest that the miscreants were involved in Maoist movement. It is evident from the seized documents that they were trying to induct young girls into the cadres,” Rourkela SP Diptesh Patnaik said.

The parents of the inmates are now a worried lot after the incident.
