The Jagatsinghpur district administration has issued a notice to a suspected sand mafia following the seizure of 200 trips of illegally stored sand at Adhanga Majurai village in Odisha, officials said on Sunday.
The individual concerned has been directed to appear before the Collector’s office on February 10 in connection with the case.
Warning Of Auction If Proof Not Produced
According to officials, the notice clearly states that if valid documentary proof regarding the seized sand is not produced, the district administration will proceed to auction the entire stock.
The Sub-Collector said the action was taken as part of the administration’s continued efforts to curb illegal sand extraction, storage, and transportation in Jagatsinghpur district.
Raid Conducted Following Tip-Off
The seizure was carried out on the night of February 5 after the administration received specific inputs about illegal sand stockpiling in the area. Acting on the information, a team led by Sub-Collector Prasanta Kumar Tarai conducted a raid at Adhanga Majurai village.
During the operation, illegally stored sand was found at two separate locations. The stock was seized as per due procedure, and further legal action was initiated against those allegedly involved.
Allegations Of Illegal Sand Trade
Officials said the operation followed multiple complaints alleging illegal sand transportation from several sand ghats across Jagatsinghpur district. It was further alleged that sand mafias were stockpiling sand at different locations and selling it at inflated prices.
The district administration said such activities not only violate existing regulations but also result in environmental damage and significant revenue loss to the state.
