Notes For Coins: Conmen Arrested For Duping Temple Authorities In Odisha

Cuttack: The Chauliaganj Police on Sunday unearthed a racket running on exchange of notes for coins and arrested four members of the gang in the Silver City.

Sources said the arrests were made on the basis of a complaint registered with Chauliaganj Police on August 4, 2019 by one Saroj Kumar Mohanty from Tarikunda area of Jagatsinghpur district.

As per the complainant, some miscreants had duped him of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of exchanging currency notes with coins few months ago.

After preliminary probe, police found that the miscreants used to collect coins from temple hundis and exchanged them with bundles of currencies looking real from outside but furtively stuffed with blank papers between higher denomination notes.

Commenting on the case, DCP Akhileswar Singh said, “We have so far arrested four people- Ishan Das from CDA area of Cuttack and Manoj Pattnaik, Anil Kumar Bhoi, Pradeep Samantray from Jagatsinghpur. Further probe into the case is underway.”
