Cuttack: The unfortunate deers at the famous deer part at Madhusudan Nagar in Cuttack city might be very dear to the visitors but certainly not to the forest department nor the Cuttack Municipal Corporation. While the number of deers has gone up in the past years, the trouble for the deers too has gone up on an equal proportion. The animals have been living completely in an uncalled for conditions due to lack of proper food and care. A plan was drawn in the past to shift the park to a better place in the city but the plan remained on paper and did not see the light of the day.

There are exactly 103 deers in the park right now. The park spreading over just two acres has become  too cringy for the deers. While the number of deers keep growing every year, there is no possibility of increasing the park area it being sorrounded by houses on all sides. It is located in close vicinity to the houses. Often the deers get hurt due to fights among themselves or accidents. Three is not an inch of grass in the park. And the deers too face food scarcity.

Sometime back, a plan was mooted to shift the park to CDA locality. A 5-acre plot too was identified in Sector-10 of CDA for shifting the park. The work has stopped there. The local corporator of CMC Pallavi who stays near the park however said that she would initiate steps to shift the park soon. But for lack of efforts by the Forest department and the CMC, the animals who do not have the capacity keep on suffering endlessly.
