Nor'wester causes extensive damage in Jeypore

Jeypore: Nor'wester rain accompanied with gusty winds caused massive damages in Jeypore area of Koraput district on Friday. At least two persons were injured at separate incidents while several houses at Peta, Jamunaguda and Irrigation Colony of the town were also damaged.

Vehicular movement was also adversely hit after trees got uprooted at several parts due to the high velocity winds. Power supply also was affected as several electric poles were also uprooted and damaged in the area.

"The rain lasted for nearly 8 to 10 minutes but strong winds left behind a trail of destruction. As several houses were damaged, trees and electric poles got uprooted," said Sachida Mohanty, a local resident.

”There was a heavy rain accompanied with wind. Everything was blown away. It caused heavy damages to eight to ten houses in the locality. Besides, my wife also sustained injury on her leg," said Josh Bargis, another resident.
