Following violence over a group clash a day earlier, normalcy has returned to Sundargarh as Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been lifted from the city on Friday.

The district Collector informed about the development after the peace committee meeting. The Collector also advised restoration of internet services in the city and suggested taking out a peace procession to maintain harmony. 

Meanwhile, the district administration continues to closely monitor the situation. As many as 15 platoons of police force have been deployed to ensure law and order. In connection with the incident, four persons have been detained and are being interrogated.

The situation had turned tense on Thursday following a clash between two groups at Regent Market under the Town Police Station limits. Both groups reportedly resorted to stone-pelting, during which a police personnel was injured.

"People from all sections of society attended the peace committee meeting in a calm and orderly manner. After reviewing the situation, we have decided to revoke BNS Section 163. We have also recommended that the government lift the internet suspension. We received good cooperation and valuable suggestions from the public today. Peaceful flag marches and patrolling will be conducted. Schools and colleges will reopen from tomorrow, and normal life is expected to resume," said Sundargarh Collector Subhankar Mohapatra.
