The young woman’s body was discovered beneath a four-storey building in Tarinigada locality, triggering widespread shock.
Initially believed to be a case of suicide, the probe gathered momentum after crucial evidence surfaced during a detailed search of the rented house linked to the key accused. Police suspect the student may have been pushed from the rooftop in an attempt to stage the incident as self-harm.
According to preliminary findings, the victim had left home on Sunday and was later traced travelling towards Paradip after taking a lift from a youth near Rahama. Her mobile phone has emerged as a key piece of evidence, helping police establish her identity and track her last known movements.
Investigators recovered important materials from the room where the young woman had stayed that night. The victim’s family has lodged a formal complaint, alleging foul play.
So far, eight people have been detained for questioning, and the prime suspect is being interrogated intensively. Police are also examining possible links between the youth who gave her a lift and others connected to the case.
Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to clarify the exact cause of death. Besides, the investigation continues to uncover the sequence of events behind the mysterious death.
“We have detained around 7-8 persons and already interrogated them. The prime accused is in our custody, and we are questioning him to gather more information. A detailed probe to ascertain the exact cause behind the victim woman’s death and the circumstances leading to the mishap is underway,” Jagatsinghpur SP, Ankit Kumar Verma, said.
“We are still awaiting the post-mortem report,” the SP Verma added.
