As part of this initiative, the ‘Ama Bus’ drivers and crew members are being made to take an oath before buses commence their journeys, aiming to prevent further loss of lives and restore public confidence in the service.

Detailed Safety Pledge

According to officials, drivers and other staff across Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, are being administered a detailed safety pledge at Ama Bus depots across the state before vehicles are released on their respective routes. Through this oath, crew members commit to strictly adhering to road safety rules and regulations.

Beyond traffic rules, the oath emphasises humane and responsible behaviour towards passengers. Drivers and conductors are urged to remain sensitive to passenger needs, maintain courteous conduct, and prioritise the safety and comfort of commuters throughout the journey. Authorities have stressed that passenger safety is as important as the personal safety of the crew on duty.

Mandatory Alcohol Tests

In addition to the oath-taking exercise, daily safety assurances are being obtained from crew members before bus departures. Mandatory alcohol tests are also being conducted to ensure that no driver operates a vehicle under intoxication. To further strengthen enforcement, special squads have been deployed along various routes to carry out surprise inspections and monitor compliance with safety norms.

Officials believe that these comprehensive measures will help curb negligent driving, reduce accidents, and ensure safer travel for thousands of passengers who rely on the Ama Bus service every day.
