Bhubaneswar: Hot and humid weather conditions continued across the state despite  early arrival of the monsoon. Although the southwest monsoon reached Odisha on June 8- two days ahead of the scheduled date, city denizens have been deprived of the refreshing showers. Rather, the scorching heat only got unbearable as mercury escalated up to four degree Celsius at various parts across the State.

 

Temperatures are expected to remain high in coming days as well, informed weathermen .The Regional Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar attributed the sudden rise in temperature to “weakened monsoon force.” The condition will remain the same for at least one week, the officials predicted.

“However, rains are likely if low pressure forms over the Bay of Bengal, officials stated.

At least eight places in the state recorded a temperature above 40 degree Celsius on Saturday.The met department issued Heat wave alert for five interior and four coastal districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi and Bolangir . alert was  also sounded for Titlagarh, Bhawanipatna and Baripada.

 

On Friday,  mercury shot up to more than 40 degree Celsius at eight places across the state . Titlagarh at 42 degree Celsius recorded the highest temperature followed by Bhawanipatna and Angul which registered 40.7 degree Celsius. Bhubaneswar sizzled at 40.2 degree Celsius while the temperature at Cuttack stood at 40.1 degree Celsius.
