NIT physical abuse: Students demand immediate action against Prof
The girl student, who has made the allegations, said, "On July 1, my professor Ramakant Jha physically harassed me. I informed about the incident to the institute’s director on July 2. Though the director assured me that he will do something within one or two days, nothing happened so far."
Notably, the girl student lodged an FIR in Sector-3 police station of Rourkela on Wednesday and met Rourkela SP A N Sinha on Thursday and requested his intervention over the issue to get justice.
Acting on the complaint of the girl student, the NIT had also set up a committee to probe into the allegation. Sunil Kumar Sarangi, director, of the institute said, "We have already formed a committee as per Supreme court guidelines."
Sources said, as per the FIR lodged in Sector-3 police station, on July 1 the second year M Tech (civil) student had gone to the chamber of the professor of Water resources in Civil engineering to discuss about the project at around 6 PM, the time slot given to her by the professor.
During the discussion, some of the students came in for clearing their doubt, following which the professor had locked the door of his chamber so that he can discuss about the project with the girl without any disturbances. Instead of discussing about the project, the professor allegedly hold her hand and hugged her with force following which the girl objected to the approach of the professor and came out of the room after opening the door herself. The girl later met the institute's director Sunil Sarangi and lodged a formal complaint.
