(image) Bhubaneswar:  A thunderstorm hit several parts of the state killing nine people on Thursday.

According to the met department, it rained almost throughout northern Orissa, where the impact of the storm was quite visible in the state and the twin city also experienced incessant showers.

A twelve-year-old girl and a woman were killed in Rourkela while a youth was killed and another injured due to lightning in Keonjhar.

Fifteen people of a marriage party were also injured at Biramitrapur.

In another incident, a 24-year-old woman died due to collapse of a mud wall following heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds in Balasore district on Thursday evening, police said.

The woman identified as Sumati Das (24) of Chandansia village under Baharda Gram Panchayat died as the mud wall of her house was one among the affected in this district.

Train services between Amarda-Basta rail station in the South Eastern Railway were affected for some time as uprooted trees fell on the rail track, said a railway official.

Following downpour, the temperature across the state dropped bringing the much needed relief from the scorching heat.
