Lifer for 9 after 41 years of political murder

Bolangir/Cuttack: It is said that justice delayed is justice denied. Then what would be said when justice is so delayed that the convicts are not even alive to undergo the sentence awarded to them.

Pronouncing such a not-so-historic verdict, the Orissa High Court yesterday awarded life imprisonment to nine persons involved in a sensational murder case that had taken place in Bolangir 41 years ago. However, only three out of the nine convicts are alive while six others have already died after enjoying their full length of life.

The infamous murder case had taken place way back in 1974 in which the convicts had attacked Parsuram Satpathy, a top politician of that time, and crushed him under a jeep.

A case had been registered against nine persons in the case. But a local court and later even the High Court had acquitted all of them. However, the Supreme Court had directed the High Court to hear the case again. It’s during the re-hearing, all the nine accused were found guilty and awarded lifers
