Panic gripped the MV-8 village in Odisha's Malkangiri after nine cobras and a python were discovered inside a poultry farm. According to reports, the reptiles had strayed into human habitation in search of food.
Alarmed villagers immediately contacted Snake Helpline, following which rescuer Sarat Majhi reached the spot, reportedly. He successfully rescued all nine cobras along with the python and later released them into a nearby forest.
Food Scarcity and Flooded Burrows
It is being suspected that food scarcity is forcing snakes into villages. The python, in particular, was believed to have ventured into human settlements in search of prey, something that occurs regularly in the region. Additionally, incessant rains in recent days may have filled the snakes’ burrows with water, compelling them to abandon their natural habitat and move towards populated areas.
Fear Among Villagers
The sight of so many snakes together left villagers shocked and frightened. The presence of multiple cobras, which are venomous, inside a human settlement caused widespread concern.
Regular Snake Encounters in Region
Snake Helpline members assured villagers by swiftly removing the reptiles from the area. All the snakes were safely relocated to the forest, away from human habitation.
Malkangiri is known to report frequent encounters with snakes, making such incidents a recurring challenge for both locals and rescue teams.
