Night Curfew in Balasore Photograph: (OTV)
In view of the festive season and in the wake of the recent disturbances in Cuttack, the Balasore district administration has imposed a night curfew in the Balasore Municipality area from Monday (October 6).
A notification issued by the Collector & District Magistrate, Balasore, states that all shops and commercial establishments within Balasore Municipality must close by 10 PM until October 21, 2025. The order notes that many shops stay open late, creating large crowds and posing a risk of law-and-order breakdown.
To avert any untoward incidents during the festive period, especially ahead of Diwali, the Collector has directed the Superintendent of Police, Balasore, to ensure stringent night patrolling and strict enforcement of the early closure order, with exceptions only for emergency services.

The Tahasildar, Balasore, and the Executive Officer of Balasore Municipality have also been asked to coordinate and ensure full compliance to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, police have started public announcements through loudspeakers, informing residents about the curfew and urging them to cooperate. Announcements are also being made through mikes in various streets and localities across the town to ensure that everyone is aware of the directive.
The step follows Cuttack clash, where eight persons have already been arrested in connection with the clashes.
