Balasore: Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of National Highway-16 at Khantapada in Balasore district today after residents of Suthanga village staged a road blockade demanding immediate repair of pothole-filled roads in the area.

Despite the rush on the national highway due to the Maha Navami today, commuters were left stranded for around two hours near Dandakali temple at Khantapada following the blockade.

The locals alleged that several casualties have been reported in road mishaps during the recent past due to poor condition of the NH road.

"We demand construction of another bridge near Khantapada as the current bridge is in a dilapidated condition," said one of the agitating locals.

Later, the district administration along with the officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) made an intervention following which the agitators withdrew the strike.

As per sources, the officials assured that they will look into the demands for repair of the road and construction of a new bridge.
