Bhubaneswar: A newborn baby girl, suspected to have been abandoned by her parents, was rescued in critical condition from a secluded place in Prasanti Vihar area of Odisha capital today. According to reports, a group of passersby rescued the baby girl from the clutches of stray dogs.

The baby girl has sustained critical injuries on head, eyes and legs in the attack by stray dogs and mongoose, sources said.

“I had gone to the place to dump garbage when heard the cries of the baby,” said a man, who rescued the baby.

“My husband had gone to burn the garbage when he spotted the baby. We immediately rushed to the spot and saw the baby being dragged by stray dogs and mongoose. Later, we rescued her from there,” said the wife of the man.

On getting information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the girl to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. The girl's condition is said to be critical.

Meanwhile, police have started an investigation in connection with the incident.
