Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a newborn girl was allegedly stolen from Berhmapur MKCG Medical College & Hospital today.

According to reports, Jyoti, wife of Vikari Nahak, a resident of Narayanpur village in Kabisurya Nagar block of Ganjam, had given birth to a baby girl at the medical. Today afternoon, Jyoti's mother had taken the baby to OPD to vaccinate her. According to sources, a woman approached Jyoti's mother and took the baby from her while asking the latter to get a ticket from the counter.

Upon returning, Jyoti's mother, to her dismay, did not find the woman or the baby.

Police reached the spot after a complaint was lodged in B.N. Pur Police Station by the father of the baby girl.

"Today the baby was to be vaccinated so her grandmother had taken the baby to the OPD where she met with a woman who asked her to handover the baby and fetch tickets for vaccination. While the grandmother of the girl had gone to get the tickets, the woman allegedly fled with the baby," said IIC of B.N. Pur Police Station, JK Patnaik.

"Investigation is being carried out and officials have been mobilized to assist in the search operation. Check posts have been set up in every route leading in and out of Berhampur to nab the accused," added Patnaik.
