Bhubaneswar: In a new twist to the alleged rape case in Khurda, the family members of the accused youth, who reportedly raped and later threw a girl out of his moving car on Wednesday evening, filed counter-allegations against the complainant today.

As per reports, the family members of the accused, Soumya Ranjan Mohanty, who hails from Jatni area of Khurda district, have refuted allegations of rape levelled by the girl. Surprisingly, they have complained before the police that the girl had rather cooked up the story to escape from repaying borrowed money.

Soumya's wife alleged, “My husband knew the girl from last six months. She even borrowed money from my husband two months back while promising to return it soon. When my husband asked her to return the money, she told him to take her to an ATM where she could withdraw some cash for repayment. However, soon after getting into the car, she tore off her dress herself and jumped out of the moving car."

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of Odisha State Commission for Women, Minati Behera visited Khandagiri Police station today and met the girl.

Speaking on the matter, Behera said, “Something has surely happened with her and we hope to get more information on it after the investigation.”

Notably, the girl was found dumped on the National Highway in front of Prananath Autonomous College in Khurda. An eyewitness Kamalakanta Jaisingh after noticing her rushed to the spot and offered her water. When she regained her consciousness, she narrated the incident. Later, Fire Services personnel and locals rescued the girl and admitted her to hospital.
