Bhubaneswar: It seems that Odisha Police is now on a new mission - ‘zero tolerance’ towards traffic violations especially drunken driving.

Going by the figures, Odisha Police has arrested 8,583 persons for drunken driving during special drives launched across the State during the last three months since the implementation of the new Motor Vehicles Act in September this year.

As per official sources, while 2,394 drunken drivers were arrested in the month of September, 3462 and 2727 persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in the month of October and November, respectively.

Highest 1,799 persons have been arrested in Ganjam district while the Puri recorded the lowest 11 arrests.

Similarly, Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) arrested 20 drivers in the last three months while 147 were nabbed in Cuttack UPD.
