New chief secy stresses on State economic growth

Bhubaneswar: The rate of public investment would be increased in government infrastructure in order to strengthen the State economy, said new chief secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra here at the secretariat.

“It is very important to increase the public investment rate from the present around 2.5 per cent to 4 per cent in government infrastructure in the coming days,” stated Mohapatra after assuming charge as the 40th chief secretary of Odisha.

“The country’s slowing economy has put a direct impact on the State. In 2010-11 and 2011-12, the economic progress has been less unlike previous years. But, it is assumed from government’s advance estimate that financial growth would be attained in 2013-14. We should give priority to the public investment so that we can sustain the economic growth,” Mohapatra told media.

Emphasis would be given to social security, health and education, he said.

The top bureaucrat has also appealed to other administrative officers to maintain efficiency, integrity and impartiality in their work.

Talking on the development works in Naxal-infested areas, he vowed to intensify all the projects especially tribal pockets of the State.

Mohapatra, a 1979-batch IAS officer, took over the charge from Bijay Kumar Patnaik who superannuated yesterday.
