Nuapada: People of Odisha want a change as there is a need for a good governance to put an end to the growing violence and corruption, reiterated former MP and senior leader Baijayant Panda after attending Heijau programme at Udyanabandha Kureshwara in the district today.

As always, Panda received a rousing reception after landing at the place for his informal tea party.

“People are talking of ‘Heijau’ when it comes to Parivartan or a change. There is a spurt in hooliganism and corruption in the State and the scenario should change. It’s we who can change it,” he said.

“We are dreaming of a change where Odia youths will get employment here in Odisha. If this happens, they will not think of going outside the State like migrant labourers. Farmers’ issues are also not being handled properly and their voices are being suppressed; there should be a change in that as well,” Panda added.

The former MP further expressed that hooliganism and violence against women should stop and only a good governance can make it possible.

Asked on his future political plans, he said, “There is enough time for 2019 elections. I will take a decision soon and let people know about it.”

He also thanked the people of Nuapada for the big turnout at the ‘Heijau’ programme today. People from different walks of life including youths and intellectuals participated in the programme and discussed an array of issues with the former parliamentarian.

Along with tea sips, the 'Heijau' programme discussed the current scenario in the State, migrant labour issue, unemployment, increasing violence against women and other corruption issues.
'Heijau' programme was earlier organized in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Angul, Hindol, Daringbadi and even in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, in response to Panda’s programme, Food Supplies Minister Surya Narayan Patro said, “A political leader’s job is to meet and interact with people. May be he has learnt a new lesson to interact with the people. If he has done some good work, there will be an impact and people will give their verdict through votes.”
