Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday constituted a 3-member committee to investigate the alleged gangrape of an Odia woman in the national capital.

The team comprising of NCW member Hemlata Kheria, Congress leader Ashima Mahananda and social activist Manasi Pradhan will submit its report to the NCW Chairperson Mamata Sharma.

“The committee headed by Hemlata Kheria will meet the victim and other investigating officials,” Sharma said.

On Thursday, Women and Child development minister Usha Devi and Textile, Handloom and Handicrafts minister Sarojini Hembram had a discussion with Delhi Police Commissioner and resident commissioner of Odihsa regarding the matter.

The previous day Odisha DGP Prakash Mishra had also spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner to expedite the investigation.

According to reports, on the fateful Sunday night the victim and her elder sister were returning to Munirka in Delhi when they were intercepted by three men. Police said, the three accused took away the victim forcibly towards Shaheen Bag in a car and raped her after throwing her elder sister from the moving vehicle.

In the following morning, both the sisters lodged a complaint in this regard at Sarita Vihar police station.
