Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday sought the intervention of Union Panchayati Raj Minister V Kishore Chandra Deo to release grants under centrally-assisted Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF) for Ganjam and Mayurbhanj districts, which have been hit by the twin calamities recently.
In a letter to the Minister, Patnaik mentioned that the State government has not received the first instalment of BRGF for these two districts in the current financial year.
“Though the State Government has already submitted the Annual Action Plan (AAP) for Ganjam and Mayurbhanj districts for the current financial year, the Ministry of Panchyati raj has not yet released even the first instalment of BRGF for these districts,” he said.
“In order to restore the damaged infrastructure of these two districts I would like to request you to intervene in the matter and issue instructions to the Ministry of Panchayati raj for early release of their full entitlement of BRGF development Grant for 2013-14,” Patnaik further said.
Official figures show, 19 districts of the state are covered under the central scheme. While the annual allocations of Development Grant for these districts were Rs.305.67 crore for the financial years 2007-08 to 2010-11, from the year 2011-12, the annual allocation has been enhanced to Rs.320.96 crore.
