Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in a bid to attract rural women launched a new programme -‘Shakti Varta’ from his kitty at the state secretariat here on Tuesday.
 
According to officials, the new policy which aims to trace local problems and find out appropriate solutions for these will cover a total of 1 lakh 40 thousand Self Help Groups (SHGs) in 24 thousand villages across the state.
 
It will focus mainly on problems relating to malnutrition, health, safe drinking water and sanitation in the respective areas.
 
The launching of ‘Shakti Varta’ was also followed by the inauguration of ‘Arunima’, a programme for pre-school education. 
 
Jointly produced by the State government and UNICEF, the project focuses to create a friendly educational environment for children.
 
Earlier this month Patnaik had launched similar populist schemes such as ‘Youth Policy’ aiming to enable, engage and empower those aged between 13 and 35 years to attract young mass. Besides, the State government had also announced free laptops for meritorious ST/SC students at +2 level, free bicycles for construction workers and financial assistance to village clubs.
