Naveen insults Assembly by announcing schemes: Congress

Bhubaneswar: Accusing Odisha government of showing disrespect to the Assembly, Congress on Saturday said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a number of populist schemes just before commencement of the budget session when the House had already been summoned.

"Generally, governments do not announce any scheme three weeks prior to commencement of assembly sessions. But, the same tradition has not been maintained by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik," Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh said.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Singh said the Chief Minister announced about Rs 1 a kg rice scheme on January 26 despite knowing that the budget session of the assembly will commence from February 14.

"This is considered a dishonour to the state legislature and the people of the state," Singh said accusing him (Naveen) of breaking rules and traditions.

Alleging that Patnaik announced populist measures keeping an eye on the next elections, Singh said the BJD government had been violating existing laws of the land in a desperate bid to get votes.
