Narcotic items seized during surprise raids at various jails, sub-jails in Bargarh

In a major crackdown on illegal activities inside prisons, police on Sunday carried out surprise raids at the Bargarh District Jail and Padampur and Sohela Sub-Jails. The operation was conducted following the directive of Bargarh Superintendent of Police (SP) after reports of illegal items being smuggled into the jail premises.

According to sources, multiple police teams were formed and deployed simultaneously across the three facilities early in the morning. The raids were aimed at curbing the alleged inflow of narcotics and other prohibited materials inside the jails.

During the inspection, police reportedly seized several quantities of narcotic substances and other objectionable items from different wards. The seized materials have been sent for examination, and an inquiry has been initiated to determine how the contraband entered the prisons.

Senior officers have stated that strict action will be taken against those found responsible, including jail staff if any complicity is established.

The SP has emphasised that such raids will continue as part of a sustained effort to maintain discipline and security measures inside correctional facilities.
