Cuttack: The Justice A S Naidu Commission probing the alleged brawl between the Rourkela police and a judicial magistrate on April, 2011 has fixed December 17 for cross examination of former Rourkela superintendent of police Deeptesh Patnaik, who had earlier filed an affidavit before it as a witness.

The Commission in its 12th sitting on Sunday decided to complete the cross examination of police personnel who have filed affidavits by December 18 and then hold sittings in Rourkela on December 23, 24 and 25 to complete the cross examinations of other witnesses.

At least 20 police personnel had filed affidavits before the Commission and cross examination of 12 were already over. The remaining eight policemen including Patnaik have been asked to appear the Commission on December 10, 11, 17 and 18 for cross examination.

It may be recalled here that a judicial magistrate Arun Patnaik was allegedly assaulted by Uditnagar police inspector Sadananda Pujari on the night of April 2 this year.

The policemen denied allegations of the magistrate and alleged that he in a drunken state had restrained the cops from doing their duty.

While two FIRs were filed in Uditnagar police station of Rourkela, each against the police inspector and the judicial magistrate and a PIL was filed in Orissa High Court, the state government had immediately announced a judicial enquiry after suspending the police inspector and asking the then SP Diptesh Patnaik to go on leave.
