Bhubaneswar: The justice AS Naidu Commission, probing into the alleged police assault on then Rourkela JMFC Arun Kumar Pattnaik in April 2011, submitted its final report to the state Home Department on Monday.

Though findings of the report in not known, it is learnt that the Commission has cited a similar incident that had taken place in Gujarat which the Supreme Court took suo motu and held police responsible for the incident.

On April 2, Pattnaik was allegedly assaulted by erstwhile Uditnagar IIC Sadananda Pujari and the incident evoked a state-wide protest paralysing the judicial activities for over a week. Though Pujari was placed under suspension after the incident, lawyers across the state demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter. On April 16, the state government through an official notification had ordered for an inquiry by AS Naidu Commission.

In his FIR, Pattnaik had said that on the night of April 2, he was taken forcefully to the Uditnagar police station, physically assaulted and abused by police.
