Bhubaneswar/ New Delhi: In a major relief to BJD MP Ramchandra Hansda, the Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to him in connection with the Nabadiganta Captial Services chit fund scam.

The apex court granted bail to Hansda, who was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in November 2014, without any conditions, informed his lawyer Akshaya Mohanty.

"After a legal battle of four years, finally the Supreme Court directed the trial court for issuing bail to MP Ramchandra Hansda who is presently lodged in Jharpara jail," said Mohanty.

Mohanty further informed that the Supreme Court bench felt that gross injustice was done to the MP and granted him bail.

Earlier, the Orissa High Court had directed the concerned trial court to conclude the case after examining the eight witnesses in the case by December 31, 2017. But due to some reasons, the trial of the case was delayed during the fag end, Mohanty added.
