Dhenkanal: After a speeding vehicle ran over the block chairman here on Saturday; the eye witnesses account strong doubts over the nature of the accident.

The deceased Naba Ghana Sahu was the block chairman of Hindol block and a prominent BJD leader in the area.

According to eye witnesses, a speeding white Scorpio hit Sahu from behind and drove away. In the Scorpio there were four to five people who had their faces covered with black clothes and the number plate was also covered.

On the very day, at around 9 am — the accident took place when Sahu was returning from his morning walk in his cashew fields.  Sustaining serious injuries from the accident, Sahu died on his way to the hospital.

According to Sahu’s family members, it was the act of some miscreants and was a planned murder.

“Earlier, someone named Jitu charged with vehicle thefts pleaded for Sahu’s intervention which Sahu did not agree to. And this could have provoked him to commit this murder,” said Child and Women Development Minister Anjali Behera who represents Hindol assembly constituency.

Murlidhar Sahu, brother of the deceased Naba Ghana Sahu sharing the same views said that the murder is due to some past rivalry and he has been a target. “Harbouring personal enmity, there was an attempted attack on him yesterday; and now it’s evident from what the eye witnesses say,” he added.

While it is suspected that it could be a planned attacked from Jitu, doubts also link to one more incident in the past; as there was some fight in a panchayat samiti meeting a few days back,.

According to Brahmananda Dandapat, SDPO, Dhenknal, a case has been registered in this connection and police have begun investigation.
