Paralakhemundi: A young girl died under suspicious circumstances while undergoing treatment in Mohana area of Gajapati District on Friday.

As per reports, one Sasmita Majhi of Kambaiju village under Adaba police limits suddenly fell sick after complaining of nausea and vomiting on Friday afternoon. She was admitted to Mohana CHC in critical condition and declared dead while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Abhisek Behera, doctor at Mohana CHC who checked Sasmita’s health condition while she was admitted to the hospital claimed poisonous reaction as the reason behind her death.

"She died because of poisonous reaction in her body. We tried our best and she was administered the best treatment possible but we failed to revive her condition,” the doctor said.

Sasmita's father Kanga Majhi clarified that around 2:00 PM on Friday, her health condition started deteriorating as she kept vomiting and complained of nausea.

“At around 3: 30 PM we went to the hospital in an ambulance. The doctor declared her dead after around 15 minutes. I don’t know how the doctor could not manage to save her,” said Majhi.

Meanwhile, Mukesh Lakra, Adaba IIC said, "Basing on the reports of the deceased’s father we have registered an unnatural death case. After consulting the doctor and referring the medical reports we will take further action."

Investigation to ascertain the exact cause behind the death of the girl is underway, police said.
