Mysterious animal on prowl; 15 sheep found dead
Cuttack: Panic gripped residents of Naraj area of Cuttack today after 15 sheep were found dead while 2 others are missing. The matter came to light after one livestock farmer Bairagi Das of Gopal Sahi found bodies of his sheep today morning.
“I had kept the sheep in the stable. However, I found 15 of them lying lifeless on the ground. There were teeth marks on their necks and cuts on the ears,” Das said.
The residents are suspecting the involvement of a mysterious animal behind the killings and have demanded an investigation.
After getting information about the deaths, forest department officials and veterinary doctor reached the spot for investigation.
“Primary investigation reveals that the sheep did not die of any disease. It could be an animal behind the attack as there are holes in the necks of the sheep. However, a detailed post-mortem report will reveal the exact cause of death,” Prashant Kumar Biswal, Block Veterinary Officer, Barang said
On the other hand, Pramod Kumar Rout, a Forest Department Official, of Bhagipur, said, “We found that the animal had entered the stable through a small opening. We are increasing patrolling in the area and have asked the villagers to stay alert.”
In a similar incident last year, a mysterious animal had killed more than 36 sheep in separate incidents in Niali village of Cuttack.
