Bhubaneswar: Newly-elected BJP MP from Bhubaneswar, Aparajita Sarangi on Saturday requested Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to provide five acres of land and infrastructure support of Rs five crore for setting up an Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) in the city.

IIFT has established itself as a prestigious institution in areas of foreign trade, export and import and trade-related laws. Presence of an IIFT in Bhubaneswar is bound to give fillip to export initiatives from the state and is also likely to open up additional employment opportunities for young students from Odisha, Sarangi said in a letter to CM.

Sarangi further pointed that there are many States which have offered land free of cost and extended infrastructure support grant for ensuring establishment of a premier academic institutes. Hence, Odisha government should take necessary steps for setting up the reputed institute, she added.

The newly-elected Parliamentarian had met the Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on July 3 and requested him to take the initiative for opening the IIFT in Bhubaneswar.
