More Housing Projects, Market Complex & Interstate Bus Terminal In The Offing For Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The development body of the smart city, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Sunday passed several resolutions with an aim to make Bhubaneswar a world-class city during the observance of its 37th Establishment Day at Jayadev Bhavan yesterday.

A slew of housing projects for middle-class people, bus terminal, shopping complex and parking lot have been conceptualised to be taken up by BDA for further development in the smart city.

The much touted interstate bus terminal at Baramunda which has so far remained only in the blueprints of the state government and missed the completion deadline many times was also taken up in the meeting. A brand new proposal has been passed to build the new bus terminal worth 174.34 Crore Rupees on 15.5 Acres of land. The proposed terminus will have a total of 35 bus bays and can easily home as many as 191 buses.

A proposal was accepted to erect a housing project worth Rs 85 Crore at Gadakana, Rs 20.7 Crore project at Subudhhipur and Rs 59.35 Crore worth housing project in Ghatikia area of the city.

The main market of Khurda town is also slated to be modernized too with a corpus of Rs 30.5 Crore. According to the plan, as many as 597 shops and a parking lot will be developed to refurbish the market which once served as a business hub.

Pratap Jena, Housing and Urban Development Minister said, "BDA has a major role to play in making Bhubaneswar a world-class city. We will ensure that BDA takes up more such developmental projects. We are planning to develop nearly 1 Lakh houses for the public and the work will start soon."
