Monsoon reaches Odisha 2 days in advance

Bhubaneswar: South West monsoon has reached Odisha two days ahead of its scheduled date, informed the Regional Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar today.

As per the Met office, some southern parts of the State are already experiencing rainfall and the monsoon will completely cover South Odisha in the 24 hours. Monsoon will cover the whole State in next 48 hours, the forecast added.

As per the initial forecast by the IMD, this year there will be a normal monsoon with rainfall of about 96 to 104 per cent of the long-term average.

On May 29 monsoon had hit Kerala, three days ahead of its normal arrival date.

On the other hand, northern parts of the State will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall induced by a low pressure in next 24 hours.

The met office has predicted that a cyclonic storm formed over the northern Bay of Bengal is likely to transform into a low pressure that will move towards Bangladesh.

Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea from tonight in view of the rough conditions.
